A Dream Come True Posted on 25 Jul 04:00

We all have dreams and passions.  Growing up I had lots of dreams, but it wasn’t until my thirties that I discovered my true passions.  As a little girl, I had dreams of becoming the next Mary Lou Retton.  In support of my dream, my parents sent me to Bella Karolyi’s Gymnastics Camp and even had a balance beam built for me.  I would spend hours in my backyard practicing on my carpeted beam while listening to my favorite cassette tapes play from my little pink jam box.  Over and over, I’d watch my reflection in the window perform pencil-like cartwheels before an imaginary audience.

I also remember dreaming someday I’d be the next Reba McEntire.  My parents always begged me to perform my favorite country songs for our guests.  Sometimes I’d reluctantly agree, but luckily for my parents I was usually eager to perform.   Not so lucky were our guests!  Looking back it seems my parents either wore some series mommy and daddy goggles, or they were in desperate need of cheap entertainment.

As I grew older, various dreams followed me.  I dreamt I’d win a medal at the Track & Field State Meet, I’d graduate from The University of Texas at Austin, marry my high school sweetheart and bouncing babies on both knees we’d cheer for Daddy as he played in the NFL.  Many of these dreams came true, some came close and others were a stretch to say the least.  Of course, the best dream come true was marrying my high school sweetheart.  He is the love of my life!  No matter what the day brings, when the sun goes down and we’re together he always ends our day with the same four words, “Today’s a good day.”  Marriage brings many dreams of the future.  My in-laws used to joke that my famous words were “I CAN’T WAIT!”  I did say it a lot, because I knew we had so many exciting things ahead of us.

As a wife and mother, my dreams became less futuristic and more about soaking up the moment while still accomplishing my goals for the day.  My typical day involves working as real estate agent, homeschooling our two boys and managing those never ending household duties.  In the mist of this I discovered my passions.

Passion is defined as a strong or powerful emotion that brings great joy.  My passions include God, family, friends, children and it turns out poetic writing.  While not equivocal to the others, I’ve found writing brings my creative side to life and keeps me dreaming.  I started writing poetic pieces in college, but it wasn’t until recently that writing took on a bigger part of my life.  My favorite thing about composing stories is seeing where my imagination takes me.

Walt Disney said, “All our dreams can come true...if we have the courage to pursue them.” With Princess Willow & the Magic Fairy Brush, I knew right away I wouldn’t allow this book to merely collect dust on my shelf.  So, I went for it!  Now my working days are spent creating, marketing and refining Princess Willow stories and products.  My husband jokingly says he thought he married an angel, but turns out he married a fairy.  Well, he may be right about the fairy part, seeing as how I now carry around a Magic Fairy Brush and seem to have grown a spectacular pair of fairy wings.  I recently made a surprise visit to patients of Cook Children’s Medical Center.  After seeing the sweet faces of little children light up to see a real life fairy, I’m convinced Peter Pan is right, “...just think of happy things and your heart will fly on wings.”  Everything we imagine can become real with faith.  Brightening a child’s day is a blessing and my ultimate goal.  My first fairy visit to Cook Children’s is one I will never forget!

Pursing my dream has given me much to look forward.  So, once again I find myself saying...“I CAN’T WAIT!”  I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Princess Willow.  I began this journey with little experience but lots of encouragement.  Publishing a book, inventing a product and successfully marketing it is no small feat.  I’m very proud to have made it this far, but realize my work has just begun.  It’s going to be a magical ride that I hope you will take with me.  I would like to extend special thanks to my husband, family and friends for always believing in me and encouraging me to tell my stories!  I’m super excited and very grateful!

Love Always,

“Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, dreams are forever.”
